An explicitly solvable energy-conserving algorithm for pitch-angle scattering in magnetized plasmas

We develop an Explicitly Solvable Energy-Conserving (ESEC) algorithm for the Stochastic Differential Equation (SDE) describing pitch-angle scattering process in magnetized plasmas. The Cayley transform is used to calculate both deterministic gyromotion and stochastic scattering, affording be explicitly solvable exactly energy conserving. An unusual property of SDE that its coefficients diverge at zero velocity do not satisfy global Lipschitz condition. Consequently, when standard numerical methods, such as Euler-Maruyama (EM), are applied, convergence difficult establish. For proposed ESEC algorithm, energy-preserving enables us overcome this obstacle. rigorously prove order 1/2 strongly convergent. This result confirmed by detailed studies. case a plasma with constant magnetic field, solution benchmarked against analytical solution, excellent agreements found.

Random string: an explicitly solvable model

We calculate exactly the Lyapunov exponent and the integrated density of states for the random string operator whose density and elastic compliance are functions of a binary Markov chain. For all values of interest short and long wave asymptotic expansions are obtained. Finally we discuss conditions of propagation and localization of waves in a binary random medium.
